Document the conventions for porting PCRE patterns to the regex crate
(no PCRE crate, panic on compile failure, dropping performance-only
possessive quantifiers, ad-hoc compatibility comments). Apply the rule
to Platform::expand_path by rewriting its conditional subpattern as an
explicit alternation, which the regex crate can compile.

The Phase B port invented an ArchivableFilesFilter trait whose filter
impls called self.filter, recursing forever; the name also collided
with the real ArchivableFilesFilter FilterIterator class. Composer has
no such interface: the finder holds GitExcludeFilter/ComposerExcludeFilter
(both extending BaseExcludeFilter) and calls $filter->filter().
Drop the invented trait, type the filters as Box<dyn BaseExcludeFilter>,
and implement BaseExcludeFilter on the concrete filters (accessors
delegating to inner). Remove the unused generic default methods from the
trait so it is dyn-compatible; they remain as inherent methods on
BaseExcludeFilterBase, which is where every caller already reaches them.

ConfigCommand/InitCommand::initialize called self.initialize, which
resolved to the inherent method itself instead of the inherited
BaseCommand::initialize (PHP's parent::initialize), recursing forever.
Disambiguate to the trait method.
CreateProjectCommand's create_composer_instance/create_audit_config
were pure pass-through wrappers that PHP does not override; they
recursed into themselves. Remove them so calls resolve to the inherited
BaseCommand trait methods (the create_audit_config wrapper also had a
&Config vs &mut Config signature mismatch).

The optional matches output was always passed Some(&mut ...) at every
call site, so the Option wrapper added no value. Take &mut directly and
inline the former internal helpers.

preg_match2 returns bool and the preg_match_all* helpers return usize
(the match count is never negative), matching how callers use them.

The preg_* shim helpers wrapped their results in Option/Result solely to
signal a regex that failed to compile. Composer never feeds a pattern
that fails at runtime, so such a failure is a programming error: panic
instead and drop the Option/Result wrappers, updating all callers.
preg_replace_callback keeps its Result return type since the callback
itself is fallible. preg_match_groups is removed in favor of preg_match
at its sole call site.

The preg.rs shim had several near-duplicate functions: simple helpers
re-implementing logic already covered by their full-featured `2`
variants. Delegate or remove the redundant ones while preserving
behavior, and migrate the affected callers:
- preg_replace / preg_split now delegate to preg_replace2 / preg_split2
- preg_match_all_simple removed; its caller uses preg_match_all
- preg_split_chars removed; its caller uses a char-boundary iterator
- preg_match_offset removed; its callers use preg_match2 directly

The free preg_* functions, the CaptureKey type, and the PREG_* constants
move from the pcre crate into shirabe-php-shim, where the rest of the
PHP standard-library shims live. Colliding names take a 2 suffix
(preg_match2, preg_split2, etc.) since the shim already exposes
differently-shaped variants. Preg keeps its public API and delegates to
the relocated functions; CaptureKey is re-exported from composer::pcre
so consumers are unaffected.

Composer never feeds a pattern that fails to compile at runtime, so a
preg_*() failure is a programming error rather than a recoverable
condition. Replace the PcreException path with a panic.

Rust's type system already distinguishes participating from
non-participating capture groups via Option, so the *StrictGroups
methods add no safety here. Remove them and switch callers to the
plain variants.

no caller on the Rust side, along with the constants and free functions
they were the sole users of.

Replace the todo!() stub with the real Symfony logic: clone the input,
bind it against the application definition (ignoring binding errors), and
read the first argument so the command name is detected even when global
options precede it.
Add a dup() method to InputInterface to model PHP's clone, derive Clone on
the input types, and treat InvalidArgument/InvalidOption/MissingInput as
ignorable ExceptionInterface errors during the pre-binding probe.

PHP wraps fopen/file_get_contents/file_put_contents in set_error_handler
to capture warning text into error_message. Rust reports I/O failures
through return values rather than warnings, so this side channel cannot
work; replace the calls with TODO(phase-c) notes and leave error_message
empty until the I/O layer surfaces a reason. Also remove the now-unused
set_error_handler_closure shim and make set_error_handler a no-op.

Composer\Console\Application embedded Symfony's Application as an
`inner` field and delegated to it, so polymorphic calls inside the
Symfony base (e.g. doRun -> $this->getLongVersion()) resolved to
Symfony's own methods and never reached Composer's overrides. As a
result `--version` bypassed Composer's getLongVersion()/doRun()
entirely.
Flatten the PHP inheritance chain into the single shirabe Application
struct: take in the Symfony base methods (parent-calling overrides kept
under a `base_` prefix) and drop the `inner` delegation. Replace the
Symfony Application struct in shirabe-external-packages with an
`Application` trait that the merged struct implements, so commands and
descriptors can reference it without a reverse crate dependency.

Convert every sprintf() call with a compile-time literal format string to
format!, implementing Display for PhpMixed (delegating to php_to_string) so
PhpMixed values render with PHP string semantics through {}. Also merge the
format!-wrapped and conditional-literal dynamic sites into single format!
calls. Genuinely runtime format strings (table styles, configurable error
messages, command synopsis, progress-bar modifiers, regex-built messages)
still go through sprintf.

Replace todo!() stubs reached on the `composer --version` path so the
command runs without panicking and exits cleanly:
- introspection (function_exists, class_exists, extension_loaded,
defined) via white-lists modeling a standard Linux PHP CLI
- type casts: php_to_string/strval, php_truthy/boolval, substr,
byte_at, explode, strtr_array
- config/env: error_reporting, ini_get, date_default_timezone_*,
server_get/server_contains_key, php_uname("s")
- IO: turn PhpResource into an enum (Stdin/Stdout/Stderr/File) and
implement fwrite/fflush/stream_isatty/php_fopen resource helpers
- shutdown/exit: register_shutdown_function + run_shutdown_functions,
exit, error_get_last
- preg_match_all_offset_capture via the regex crate; the formatter
pattern drops PCRE possessive quantifiers (original kept in a
comment with a TODO)
proc_open reports unavailable for now (TODO(phase-c)); terminal-size
and tty detection fall back to defaults. sprintf calls on this path
are rewritten with format!(). OutputFormatterStyleInterface gains
clone_box to return shared styles.

The server_argv() shim merely wrapped command-line arguments, so call
std::env::args() directly at each use site and drop the unused shim.
|

The update flow differs fundamentally from the PHP phar-based one, and no
release has been published yet, so the command would be meaningless.

The Compiler.php is PHP-tooling only (bin/compile) with no Rust
equivalent, so it is not ported. Remove the compiler module along with
the symbols used solely by it.

Wire up ConsoleIO with HelperSet/QuestionHelper, register the
ErrorHandler with the IO instance, and fall back to a default output
in run(). Replace resolved phase-b TODOs across the console, command,
io, factory, installer, dependency_resolver, and util modules; reclassify
the remaining blockers (typed Symfony command registry, stdin resource
caching) as phase-c.

pool_builder's PrePoolCreateEvent stays deferred: its constructor needs

Resolve category K (array_* functions, integer keys, nested mutation,
sorting). Add shim variants (uasort over Vec<T>, uasort_map for IndexMap)
and delegate to existing typed variants (strtr_array, array_merge_map,
array_search_in_vec). Implement PHP array semantics directly where the
shape is fixed: canonical integer-key coercion (is_php_integer_key,
shared by config and FilesystemRepository::dumpToPhpCode), strict
array_search via trait-object pointer identity, array_reverse/array_chunk
preserve_keys loops, and the installed.php nested version mutations via
auto-vivify helpers.
Resolving the array_merge in UpdateCommand unmasked latent borrow bugs in
execute's tail (Rc input/output moved by value); fixed with .clone() to
match PHP reference sharing, and resolved the tightly-coupled Intervals
constraint check.
composerRequire reclassified to phase-c: it depends on the $GLOBALS
superglobal and PHP's require include mechanism, neither portable.

Implement the foundational PhpMixed conversion infrastructure
(From<bool|i64|f64|String>, order-sensitive PartialEq matching PHP ===)
and resolve the category-G phase-b TODOs that depend on it:
- Fix VCS driver cache paths that discarded parsed JSON or diverged on
null caches (svn/forgejo/gitlab/git-bitbucket/github).
- Wire up real conversions previously stubbed or dropped: suggests
platform config, audit ignore-severities, composer_repository search
and ProviderInfo, class_loader prefix/classmap merges, locker lock
diff comparison, advisory JSON serialization, SPDX license fields.
- Make GenericRule take a typed ReasonData; populate RULE_ROOT_REQUIRE
with the constraint and convert PhpMixed at the call sites.

Port Config::process() to the real Preg::replace_callback, whose closure
borrows &self/flags and calls get_with_flags; surface get() errors via a
captured cell so process now returns Result. Switch the replace_callback
shim bounds to FnMut to allow the error-capturing closure.
Wire CreateProjectCommand suggestion collection through the
Rc<RefCell> reporter's interior mutation.

Resolve category F phase-b TODOs (class-string, instanceof, get_class,
method_exists, __FILE__, Reflection API, downcast).
- VcsRepository: dispatch drivers through a VcsDriverKind enum
(instantiate/supports/php_class_name) and add constructors to the
concrete VCS drivers
- repository downcasts via RepositoryInterfaceHandle::downcast_rc and
as_any (init/show commands, vcs ValidatingArrayLoader)
- BaseCommand::is_self_update_command override replaces an instanceof
- Factory::create narrows PartialComposer to ComposerHandle via as_full
- InstalledVersions gains set_self_dir/set_installed_is_local_dir,
replacing Reflection-based static property mutation
- ClassLoader::as_array_iter ports the PHP (array) cast
- drop the unnecessary __FILE__ phar branch in self-update
application get_class(command) reclassified TODO(plugin); buffer_io
StreamableInputInterface downcast and the ValidatingArrayLoader trait
redesign left as tracked TODOs.

Replace the 10 fallback-closure todo!()s in manipulate_json with real
PhpMixed manipulation. The fallback rewrites the decoded composer.json
when the JsonManipulator clean update fails.
- manipulate_json: drop the args Vec and array_unshift_ref (the latter
called the array_unshift shim and only existed to thread config through
args). Fallbacks now take &mut config directly and capture typed values,
mirroring the clean closures. fallback returns Result so insertRepository
can throw on a missing reference repository.
- Add private helpers: normalize_repositories_to_list,
dedupe_repositories_by_name, set_nested, unset_nested, is_auth_config_key.
- Faithfully mirror PHP quirks in the dormant fallback path, including the
reset()+foreach double-walk of the first segment in add/removeProperty.

Replace the PHP `call_user_func([$obj, $method], ...)` / `$obj->{'get'.$x}()`
dynamic dispatches (category E) with static Rust dispatch.
- json_config_source: inject the clean-update as a typed
`FnOnce(&mut JsonManipulator) -> Result<bool>` closure instead of a
method-name string, dropping the call_user_func_array round-trip through
PhpMixed args. The auth-config method override moves into the
add/remove_config_setting closures.
- config_command: dispatch addConfigSetting/addProperty on the concrete
JsonConfigSource via match.
- locker: select getRequires/getDevRequires and getReplaces/getProvides via
match on the existing handle getters (previously stubbed to empty Vec).
- create_project_command: reuse the existing get_links_for_type helper.

PHP mutator methods that the Phase B port could not call because only
&self / &dyn / Rc access was available. Resolved by the interior-mutation
APIs that already exist: handle &self setters (set_dist/source_reference,
set_requires/dev/references/stability_flags), Rc<RefCell<dyn InputInterface>>
.borrow_mut(), and get_installation_manager().borrow_mut() (build_package_map
passes an empty/canonical package list per upstream). composer.get_package()
returns &RootPackageInterfaceHandle, so the "&dyn" Phase B note was wrong.
factory's set_config_source/set_auth_config_source were already live code;
their stale TODOs are removed.

Replace value-by-value signature workarounds with proper ownership:
- validate_json_schema: borrow JsonFile via ValidateJsonInput<&JsonFile>,
restoring the dropped local auth file validation call
- Auditor::audit / Solver::new / create_pool: pass cloned Rc handles and
share Pool via Rc<RefCell<Pool>>; create_pool now takes &mut Request
- MarkAlias{Installed,Uninstalled}Operation: hand over AliasPackageHandle
from the alias-confirmed branch
- dispatch_installer_event: clone the base Transaction (Rc-backed
contents) and enable the PRE_OPERATIONS_EXEC dispatch
- SuggestedPackagesReporter: share between command and installer via
Rc<RefCell<>> to mirror PHP reference semantics
PrePoolCreateEvent remains a TODO: it is plugin-only and would require a
speculative Rc migration of Request whose payload is never read today.

Resolve the resolvable subset of category A (shared ownership / non-cloneable
PHP class) TODOs by leaning on values that are already shared behind Rc/handle
wrappers, where cloning preserves PHP reference semantics:
- solver: call IgnoreListPlatformRequirementFilter::filter_constraint with a
cloned AnyConstraint (a Clone enum) and propagate the Result
- update_command: filter PlatformRepository out of the repository manager's
handles into a CompositeRepository (array_filter equivalent)
- package_discovery_trait: pass the real platform_requirement_filter (Rc clone)
instead of substituting ignore_nothing()
- installation_manager: pass the original full operation list (Vec<Rc<_>>
clone) as all_operations
- file_downloader: swap self.io to NullIO and restore via std::mem::replace
- auditor: reuse the PackageInterfaceHandle list across the advisory and
abandoned-package queries
- process_executor: drop the unused, lossy Clone impl
- config / array_repository: demote settled RefCell-design markers to comments
Remaining category A items (factory installer wiring, purge_packages handle
bridge, installer cache identity, reinstall flow, plugin command discovery)
stay as TODOs since correct resolution needs structural refactors.

Implement MetadataMinifier::expand with the PHP list-of-arrays signature
(Vec<IndexMap>) and wire it into ComposerRepository so composer/2.0
minified package metadata is expanded, resolving the phase-b TODO.
minify() is left unported as it is not used in Composer itself.
