PHP mutates the caught exception's protected $code via ReflectionProperty.
The port takes ownership of the exception through anyhow's downcast, writes
ERROR_TRANSPORT_EXCEPTION into its public code field and re-wraps it, so no
reflection equivalent is needed.

The shim's filesystem entry points took `&str` even though each one resolves
to a local path through `std::fs` or a syscall, so callers holding a `PathBuf`
had to stringify it at the call site. They now take `impl AsRef<Path>`, the
form `file_exists`, `is_dir`, `unlink` and the rest of the already-converted
set use.
`Phar`, `PharData` and `ZipArchive` keep their archive path as a `PathBuf`.
`PharData::compress` names the compressed sibling by appending the suffix to
the file name rather than formatting the path into a `String`.
Arguments PHP resolves through a stream wrapper (`fopen`, `file_put_contents`,
`include`) still take `&str`, as do the byte-string operations (`dirname`,
`basename`, `pathinfo`) and archive-internal entry names, which are `/`-joined
logical names rather than OS paths.

The pinned plugin and its real dependency tree (nine packages, fetched by
commit and verified by tree hash into the git-ignored ext/) install under
both implementations, and the list/help renderings of the plugin-provided
normalize command must match upstream byte for byte. The execution
comparison is written but ignored: NormalizeCommand builds a second,
in-process Composer instance, and the worker's proxy stubs reject native
construction of the classes that path instantiates. Stale comments about
the missing worker-side application are updated to the current facts.

A same-FQCN Composer\Console\Application, hand-written under the new
php/runtime/ tree, hosts CommandProvider commands inside the PHP worker:
PhpCommandProxy overrides run() and forwards the stringified input, so the
real Symfony machinery binds, validates and executes against the live
command object, while help/list render Rust-side from a definition read
back at construction. Reverse \Shirabe\RustCommandStub rows let a plugin
command invoke built-in commands back in the Rust process, keeping every
command on the side whose helper set it was written for.
Composer\EventDispatcher\Event moves from a generated stub to a dual-mode
runtime class: the real BaseCommand::initialize constructs a
PreCommandRunEvent natively in the worker, which a proxy-only constructor
guard rejected. Its PRE_COMMAND_RUN dispatch reaches a new EventDispatcher
stub whose dispatch supports the observably-no-op no-listener case and
fails explicitly otherwise. The stub generator now accepts runtime-provided
classes as stub bases (never as targets) and cross-checks the Application
handoff property table against the real class.

Port Application::getPluginCommands: resolve the local composer with
plugins force-enabled, fall back to Factory::createGlobal, and collect
commands from CommandProvider capability adapters. PhpCommandProxy now
mirrors name/description/aliases/hidden over RPC so `list` output
matches upstream; input definitions remain TODO(plugin).
PhpClass::php_class_name returns an owned String because PHP-backed
proxies only know their class at runtime (the override-skip warning
prints get_class). CommandProvider::getCommands hands out shared
Rc<RefCell> handles since the commands are stored in the application.
Factory::createGlobal now propagates createConfig errors instead of
swallowing them, and Application::getComposer only catches the
exception classes upstream catches, so a ParsingException reaches
doRun's GithubActionError path as in Composer.

Implement the two script execution paths that previously stopped at
todo!(): a Class::method listener is invoked as CallStaticMethod with the
event crossing the boundary as a proxy-stub handle, and a Command-class
listener runs inside a throwaway bare Symfony Application hosted by the
worker via a generated snippet, its BufferedOutput written back through
the dispatcher's IO. makeAutoloader is ported for real (canonical-package
hash, setDevMode, buildPackageMap/parseAutoloads/createLoader), and the
class_exists/is_callable/is_a/defined guards now query the worker, whose
script autoloader resolves classes by asking the Rust-side ClassLoader
over the reverse channel. EventInterface gains as_any (the IOInterface
downcast pattern) so the concrete event type is reachable behind the
trait object. Application::do_run now registers ScriptAliasCommand
entries as typed commands, unblocking the run-script --list/alias tests;
the dev-mode-to-generator test is ported with local mockall mocks. The
remaining ignored tests carry re-verified reasons: the listener methods
live on the PHPUnit test class itself (unloadable in the worker), or the
test needs live import of a user PHP Command class into the Application.

InputArgument/InputOption
Composer backports symfony/console 6.1's $suggestedValues parameter in
Composer\Console\Input\{InputArgument,InputOption}; the Rust newtypes had
dropped it. PHP closures are bound to the command ($this), but a command
cannot capture a handle to itself while configure() runs inside new(), so
the closure receives the bound command as an explicit `this` argument at
call time instead.
- add SuggestedValues (list | this-taking closure) and wire it through
InputArgument::new5 / InputOption::new6 and their complete() methods
- track Composer-typed definition entries by name in BaseCommandData side
maps, standing in for PHP's instanceof checks (set_definition converts
entries to the Symfony types for storage)
- add base_command_complete, the BaseCommand::complete dispatch shared by
every Composer command
- introduce BaseCommand::base_command_data and make command_data a default
method on top of it

get_plugin_commands now yields shared command handles so the discovered
commands can go through the same add() path as built-in ones, dropping the
placeholder that discarded them.

regex::Regex::clone() does not share the underlying meta engine's
search-cache pool, so every fresh clone pays a ~10us warmup cost on
its first use. Two changes together eliminate this across nearly all
preg_* call sites:
- A php_regex! macro resolves PHP-style patterns to a per-call-site
&'static regex::Regex (via regex-macro's LazyLock), applied at the
majority of call sites throughout the codebase.
- Call sites still passing dynamic pattern strings go through
PATTERN_CACHE, which now stores Arc<(Regex, bool)> and hands out
Arc::clone()s instead of cloning the Regex itself.
PregPattern::resolve() returns a ResolvedPattern enum (Arc or
'static reference) rather than an owned Regex, so neither path ever
clones the Regex proper.

Resolve the base_run render_exception TODO by downcasting the
OutputInterface handle to the concrete ConsoleOutput type, mirroring
`$output instanceof ConsoleOutputInterface` from Symfony's
Application::run.
|
|
|
|
CommandLoaderInterface::get() returned Box<dyn Command>, which didn't
match the Rc<RefCell<dyn SymfonyCommand>> Application::add() expects,
leaving both call sites as todo!() panics.
|
|
|
|
InputDefinition stores options as Rc<InputOption> for sharing, so
CompletionSuggestions::suggest_option[s] now accepts Rc<InputOption>
instead of owned values, resolving the ownership mismatch left as a
todo!() in Application::complete and CompleteCommand.

Buffering warnings into a Vec was a stale Phase B workaround for a
borrow conflict that no longer exists now that io is a separately
cloned Rc<RefCell<dyn IOInterface>> handle; write them directly in
the loop like the original PHP does.
|
|
The --profile flag parsed the option but never actually enabled the
timing/memory output, because ConsoleIO::enableDebugging existed only as an
inherent method, unreachable through the `dyn IOInterface` handle held by
Application. Promote enable_debugging to an IOInterface trait method
(default panics, since only ConsoleIO/BufferIO ever legitimately receive
this call) so do_run can invoke it directly without downcasting.

Port testNoPluginsDisablesPluginsWhenScriptCommandsExist and
testScriptCommandTakesPriorityOverAbbreviatedBuiltinCommand. Both stay
#[ignore]d because do_run panics at the script-registration todo!()
(application.rs:2461) when composer.json has scripts. Add a test-only
ApplicationHandle::__get_composer accessor so the first test's
getPluginManager assertions can be expressed.

Add a minimal shirabe-php-rpc crate that spawns the system PHP as a
child process and asks it for runtime information over a Unix domain
socket, then use it to fill the `--version` PHP line with the real
\PHP_VERSION and \PHP_BINARY instead of fixed placeholder values.
See docs/dev/php-rpc.md for the design and scope.

Composer/PartialComposer exposed its RepositoryManager, InstallationManager,
EventDispatcher, Locker, DownloadManager, AutoloadGenerator and ArchiveManager
as concrete types, but Composer's public setters (setDownloadManager() etc.)
let plugins swap in subclasses. Introduce a *Interface trait per manager and
store each as Rc<RefCell<dyn ...Interface>> so a replacement is honored.
Only Composer's slots and the sinks fed from its accessors become trait
objects; managers injected concretely at construction keep their concrete
references, matching PHP semantics. Fluent setters on the affected classes now
return () and Locker::update_hash is de-generified to a boxed FnOnce so the
traits stay object-safe.

The compiler confirms none of the call sites invoke a &mut self method
on the returned Composer, so the exclusive RefMut borrow was never
needed and only risked borrow check conflict. Switch every site to the
shared composer_full borrow and drop the now-dead composer_full_mut
helper.

Rework the environment shim around getenv/putenv on the real environment
and $_ENV/$_SERVER as startup snapshots, all over OsString. Migrate every
caller off the old server()/server_argv() helpers and force the snapshots
in main() before any putenv() runs. Document the porting rules in
docs/dev/env-vars-porting.md.

The Command trait and Composer's BaseCommand took &mut self, so dispatch
held a borrow_mut on the command's RefCell for the whole call. A command
re-entering itself (e.g. the help command describing itself) then panicked
with "RefCell already borrowed".
All Command/BaseCommand methods now take &self and the command state is
interior-mutable (Cell/RefCell). Shared borrows coexist, so re-entrant
describe paths no longer conflict. Getters that returned references now
return Ref guards; the descriptor describe_* methods take &dyn Command;
mixin accessors return Ref/RefMut.

Port the pure-method cases (parse/namespace/formatAuthors/git/vendor-ignore)
and build the ApplicationTester / initTempComposer harness the run cases need.
Supporting production changes:
- carry the streamable input stream as PhpResource (not PhpMixed) and add
InputInterface::as_streamable so QuestionHelper reads the injected stream
- add StreamOutput/ConsoleOutput __set_stream test helpers and
ApplicationHandle::set_catch_exceptions for the tester
- implement the interact() author validator via parse_author_string

Replace the dynamic, string-keyed HelperSet (set/has/get/get_iterator,
HelperSetKey, deprecated set_command/get_command) with a closed set of
FormatterHelper, DebugFormatterHelper, ProcessHelper and QuestionHelper
instantiated by an argument-less constructor and exposed through typed
getters (get_formatter/get_debug_formatter/get_process/get_question).
The typed getters let ProcessHelper, QuestionHelper::write_error and
InitCommand::interact drop their downcast/placeholder todo!() stubs.
Dynamic registration of plugin-provided helpers is intentionally dropped
for now and tracked via TODO(plugin) comments.

Every ConsoleIO construction site only ever registers a single QuestionHelper
(production) or none (tests), and routing asks through HelperSet::get('question')
loses the concrete type, forcing a downcast back to QuestionHelper. Receive the
QuestionHelper in the constructor and hold it directly (in a RefCell, since
QuestionHelper::ask takes &mut self while the IOInterfaceImmutable ask methods are
&self), dropping the HelperSet field and the throwaway HelperSet built at each
call site.

Collapse the dual Application API (static methods taking
`&Rc<RefCell<Application>>` plus `&mut self` bridges via `shared()`) into a
single handle type `ApplicationHandle(Rc<RefCell<Application>>)`, mirroring the
Composer handle pattern.
Methods that invoke command callbacks (add, run, do_run, base_run, base_do_run,
do_run_command, add_commands, init) move to `impl ApplicationHandle` with
short-scoped borrows; data-only methods and `impl BaseApplication` stay on
`Application`. `shared()` now returns the handle, and `new_shared`/`init_shared`
fold into `ApplicationHandle::new`/`init`.

The execute() proxy was left as todo!(); wire it to the shared
Application handle so `outdated` re-enters the run flow as `show -l`,
matching PHP's $this->getApplication()->run(). Add Application::shared()
to expose the new_shared self-reference and un-ignore run_outdated.

Port Symfony's Application::doRenderThrowable so command failures render
the error box instead of hitting todo!(). This unblocks six CLI no-panic
tests (config, depends, global, prohibits, remove, repository), whose
ignore attributes are now removed.
Also fill in the php-shim functions on the render path that were still
todo!(): php_exception_get_code, intval, str_pad, str_split,
mb_detect_encoding, mb_convert_encoding, mb_strwidth, mb_convert_variables.
PHP file/line and the verbose getTrace() block have no faithful Rust
equivalent; file/line use PHP's own 'n/a' fallback and the trace block is
intentionally omitted.

Composer's Application::getComposer() calls exit(1) when a required
Composer instance fails to build under areExceptionsCaught(). Replace the
deep std::process::exit with a php-shim ExitException that mirrors PHP's
`exit` construct: it bypasses parent::doRun()'s catch and Symfony's
renderThrowable (excluded at both broad catches), so the already-written
plain error message is not re-rendered and the process exits with code 1.
