file_get_contents() and file_get_contents_with_max_length() return
Vec<u8> instead of a from_utf8_lossy'd String.
Call sites whose consumer takes a &str still convert lossily and are
marked TODO(bytes).
file_get_contents_with_max_length() now reads at most the requested
number of bytes instead of the whole file.

Messages that instruct the user to run a command named the Composer
binary. Shirabe ships as its own binary, so the hints now name it.
File names (composer.json, composer.lock), the "composer" repository
type and prose about Composer itself are untouched. The installer and
functional integration fixtures live in the Composer submodule and
cannot be edited, so their expected output is normalized on load.

MetadataMinifier::expand now returns ExpandedVersions, which holds the
minified input plus, for each expanded version, a table of references to
where its fields live. A version is copied only when materialize() asks
for it. ComposerRepository::load_async_packages runs its constraint and
stability filters straight off that view through the new VersionFields
trait, so the versions it rejects are never copied at all.
Benchmarks are new under crates/shirabe/benches. load_packages against
real packagist p2 metadata, before -> after:
symfony/console (768 versions)
0 accepted 9.01 ms -> 4.40 ms -51%
50 accepted 10.70 ms -> 6.30 ms -41%
147 accepted 13.17 ms -> 9.62 ms -27%
329 accepted 18.58 ms -> 16.89 ms -9%
663 accepted 27.27 ms -> 27.89 ms +2%
laravel/framework (1277 versions)
0 accepted 39.44 ms -> 11.22 ms -72%
81 accepted 44.76 ms -> 18.25 ms -59%
840 accepted 125.44 ms -> 120.12 ms -4%
1266 accepted 163.18 ms -> 182.01 ms +12%
The crossover sits near 80% acceptance. Past it the view loses, because
materialize rebuilds a map where the old code cloned one, and the
minified input stays alive alongside the copies; the 1266-of-1277 case
measured between +5% and +12% across runs. Loads with a real constraint
sit far below the crossover.

`ProcessExecutor::execute_args` existed only to turn `execute`'s
`anyhow::Result` into an exit code of 1, so every one of its ~87 call
sites silently took the "command failed" branch on an error PHP would
have thrown. It is gone; callers use `execute` and propagate with `?`.
Where the enclosing function had no `Result` to propagate into, its
signature grew one, up to and including `Git::get_version`,
`Svn::binary_version`, `GitHub`/`GitLab`/`Bitbucket::authorize_oauth`,
`InitCommand::get_git_config` and `DiagnoseCommand::check_git`.
The VCS drivers had the same problem in the other direction: their
`get_contents` returned `Result<Response, Box<TransportException>>`, a
type too narrow for the PHP method, which lets any Throwable out of the
`catch (TransportException $e)` block. Every non-transport error was
therefore rewritten into a `TransportException` with code 0, which the
callers switch on. They now return
`anyhow::Result<Result<Response, Box<TransportException>>>`: the outer
`Result` carries what PHP does not catch, the inner one the exception
the drivers handle.
That signature also restores `GitLabDriver::getContents`: the 400/401
`TransportException`s it raises to force authentication are thrown
inside its own `try` block and handled by its own `catch`, but the port
returned them straight to the caller, so the authentication flow behind
them never ran.
`impl_php_exception!` gains `From<Box<$ty>> for anyhow::Error` so a
caught exception can be re-propagated with `?`.

Commands were carried as `PhpMixed`, whose `String`/`List` variants do
not tell a shell command line apart from an argv list at the type level.
`Perforce::execute_command` and `Git::run_command` therefore funnelled
string commands through `execute_args`, spawning `p4 set` or
`git command` as a single argument instead of running it through a shell
as PHP does; their tests were written against that shape.
Introduce `CommandLine::{Shell, Args}` and use it for every
`ProcessExecutor` entry point, the mock expectation queue and the
`Git::run_command` callables. The unreachable "Invalid command type"
branches disappear with it, and the affected tests go back to the string
expectations the PHP suite uses.

The alternation that stands in for the original conditional subpattern
reports the branch it did not take as an empty string, so `dvar` was
always present and won over `pvar`, leaving %VAR% unexpanded. `\w+`
cannot capture an empty string, so an empty branch means it did not
participate.

Running the ignored tests shows several reasons naming a blocker the
test never reaches. The plugin hooks in all_functional_test do run, and
what stops both cases is the worker's Composer\InstalledVersions;
class_loader_test stops at include_file, not class_exists;
auth_helper_test's wrapper is ported and the blocker is trigger_error;
composerRequire is ported as __shirabe_composer_require.

parse_url now returns Option<UrlComponents> instead of a PhpMixed array,
and the component-selecting overload with the PHP_URL_* constants is gone:
callers read the field they want. Two call sites change behaviour as a
result, both towards PHP:
* CurlDownloader::handle_redirect tested scheme and host with is_null(), so
an unparsable Location header (PhpMixed::Bool(false)) counted as an
absolute URL. PHP's truthiness test sends it to the relative-path branch.
* Url::get_origin appended a literal port 0, which PHP treats as falsy and
leaves off.

Output buffering captures whatever the PHP interpreter would echo to
stdout. The shim routes no output through a buffer, so these functions
could never capture anything and stayed todo!(). Record the gap in
docs/known-incompatibilities.md instead.

Composer's Composer\Util\TlsHelper is marked deprecated for removal in
Composer 3.0 and has no caller in composer/composer outside its own
test: PHP's stream layer verifies certificate hostnames itself, and the
one surviving method delegates to composer/ca-bundle.
The Rust port had no caller either, so it, its test, and the
openssl_x509_parse shim it was the sole user of are removed.

Every parent module in the symfony-* crates already re-exported its leaf
modules with `pub use`, so each item was reachable by two paths. Make the
leaf modules private and route all callers through the single re-exported
path.

Composer restarts itself with Xdebug unloaded because Xdebug makes PHP
several times slower. Xdebug is never loaded into this process, so what
needs dealing with is the PHP worker: it is spawned with
`-d xdebug.mode=off` and `XDEBUG_MODE=off` (Xdebug reads the environment
variable first and lets it override every ini setting), which makes its
module init return before it installs any executor, compile, error or
opcode hook.
Rewriting the ini files and re-executing, the way xdebug-handler does,
would additionally cover Xdebug 2, which hooks unconditionally and has no
equivalent setting. That is not worth its machinery here: Xdebug 2 caps
out at PHP 7.4, while every PHP version Composer supports can run
Xdebug 3.
What remains of XdebugHandler is small enough to live beside the worker
it governs, so its crate is gone and its callers inline it. isXdebugActive
answers false without asking PHP whenever the worker is switched off, so a
command that needs no PHP does not spawn one just for the Xdebug warning;
diagnose reports what the worker measures instead, which still surfaces an
Xdebug that ignores the setting. PlatformRepository has no unloaded
extension to restore, since switching the mode off leaves it loaded.
COMPOSER_ORIGINAL_INIS is neither written nor read: it exists so a
restarted process can name the ini files it replaced, and IniHelper can
report the worker's own. IniHelperTest injects through that variable, so
none of its cases are ported.

doRemove() renames a directory to a random hidden name before emptying
it, and undoes that rename when the final rmdir fails, so a concurrent
process cannot recreate the path mid-removal. It also walks one level at
a time through FilesystemIterator instead of flattening the whole tree,
and lets an inner rmdir failure pass, both as upstream does.
copy() keeps the mode fopen($targetFile, 'w') would have left rather
than the origin's, symlink() and mirror() call readlink() and
getLinkTarget() where upstream does, and a directory iterator that
cannot be opened propagates its UnexpectedValueException instead of
being swallowed or flattened into an IOException.
Error message text is out of scope per docs/known-incompatibilities.md,
so the three TODO(phase-c) markers that only tracked wording are gone,
along with linkException()'s Windows-only branch. So are the arguments
no caller varies -- symlink()'s copyOnWindows, mirror()'s iterator and
options, copy()'s overwriteNewerFiles -- which removes the last
TODO(phase-c) in the file.
New shim functions: readlink, filesystem_iterator, stream_is_local,
strrev and SplFileInfo::getLinkTarget. base64_encode takes bytes so
random_bytes() can feed it.

shirabe-symfony-console crate
Move `Symfony\Component\Console` out of shirabe-external-packages and
into its own crate, so the path is
`shirabe_symfony_console::application::Application` instead of
`shirabe_external_packages::symfony::console::application::Application`.
The `delegate_to_inner!` and `delegate_command_trait_impls_to_inner!`
macros move with it.

mkdir, rmdir, unlink and symlink each had a bool version and a _result
twin returning the io::Error, which left two names for one call. Keep
only the Result form and let the callers that want a boolean spell out
.is_ok(). Call sites that discard the outcome, as their PHP originals
do, are unchanged.

The shim's PATH_SEPARATOR was hardcoded to ":", so every PATH list was
split and joined on the wrong character off Unix. std::env::split_paths
and join_paths use the platform's separator, which also lets the bin-dir
membership test in EventDispatcher compare list entries instead of
regex-matching the raw PATH string.

MAIN_SEPARATOR is the path separator; PHP's `'\\' === DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR`
uses it as an OS test only because PHP has no dedicated one. cfg!(windows)
says what the branch actually selects on, and leaves MAIN_SEPARATOR to the
sites that really join or split paths.

Ported exceptions were flat structs reached with `downcast_ref`, so
Composer's `catch (\RuntimeException $e)` only matched the exact leaf
type and `get_class($e)` had nothing to report. Each exception now
embeds an instance of the class it extends and travels inside an
`AnyThrowable`; `Catch::catch`/`catch_mut` walk that chain, and
`PhpClass::php_class_name` yields the PHP FQCN.
Dropping the `std::error::Error` impls from the exception types leaves
`AnyThrowable` as the only route into an `anyhow::Error`, so the walk
cannot be bypassed. A `no_exception_downcast` linter catches the
`downcast::<X>()` calls that would now silently answer `None`.
Three sites change behavior as a result: the `TransportException`
exit-code override reaches `MaxFileSizeExceededException`, the
`catch (\LogicException)` in findSimilar() reaches its subclasses, and
rendered exception titles carry the real class name rather than a
guess. `get_class_err()` is no longer a `todo!()`, which re-enables
FilesystemRepositoryTest::testCorruptedRepositoryFile.

Replace the todo!() bodies with real ports. Four autoload-generator
tests now run for real; the rest stay #[ignore]d, but each ignore reason
now names the concrete missing symbol instead of a vague subsystem.
Production additions the ports need: the deprecated
AuthHelper::addAuthenticationHeader wrapper,
EventDispatcher::__set_dispatch_script_override as the seam for PHPUnit
onlyMethods(['dispatchScript']), and a define() stub in the shim.

The shim's filesystem entry points took `&str` even though each one resolves
to a local path through `std::fs` or a syscall, so callers holding a `PathBuf`
had to stringify it at the call site. They now take `impl AsRef<Path>`, the
form `file_exists`, `is_dir`, `unlink` and the rest of the already-converted
set use.
`Phar`, `PharData` and `ZipArchive` keep their archive path as a `PathBuf`.
`PharData::compress` names the compressed sibling by appending the suffix to
the file name rather than formatting the path into a `String`.
Arguments PHP resolves through a stream wrapper (`fopen`, `file_put_contents`,
`include`) still take `&str`, as do the byte-string operations (`dirname`,
`basename`, `pathinfo`) and archive-internal entry names, which are `/`-joined
logical names rather than OS paths.

IOInterface::ask/select now return anyhow::Result<PhpMixed>, and
ConsoleIO::ask_question forwards QuestionHelper errors (validator
failures, MissingInputException) instead of collapsing them with
.expect(). In PHP these exceptions propagate from QuestionHelper
through ConsoleIO to the caller, so callers such as UpdateCommand's
interactive package selection must be able to observe them; the
MissingInputException is wrapped with its concrete type preserved so
Application's ExceptionInterface downcast keeps working. All call
sites now propagate with `?` (Perforce::query_p4_user becomes
Result-returning: PHP declares it void but exceptions still escape),
and the previously ignored
test_interactive_mode_throws_if_no_package_entered passes.
ask_confirmation/ask_and_hide_answer still collapse errors; extending
propagation to them is left as TODO(phase-c) pending a decision.

Adopt the tar, flate2, and bzip2 crates to fill in the phar.rs and
compress.rs todos: PharData tar/zip reading, building, and whole-archive
compression, plus a native .phar reader that follows the php.net
file-format manual and verifies hash-based signatures. Callers now
propagate the constructor/extract errors PHP throws, and fwrite accepts
byte strings so gzread no longer needs lossy UTF-8.
The native .phar writing API stays todo!() (no call sites; Composer's
Compiler is not ported) and OPENSSL phar signatures are accepted
unverified (TODO(phase-c)).
This unblocks Tar::getComposerJson and the tar/phar/gzip downloaders;
tar_test (7), artifact_repository_test (2), and phar_archiver_test zip
(1) are un-ignored. The archive command itself still panics because
ArchiveManager::archive always generates glob excludes whose look-ahead
regexes the regex crate cannot compile; converting those patterns to
regex-compatible ones is a separate, still-undecided work item.

Two shim gaps made the extension-related branches of solver-problem
messages wrong:
- phpversion($ext) with a non-empty extension can't be known statically
(it's shirabe-php-shim's todo!()); Problem::get_missing_package_reason
now calls shirabe_php_rpc::phpversion, the same RPC bridge
platform::runtime::Runtime::get_extension_version already uses.
- extension_loaded's hardcoded allowlist was missing "pcre", a mandatory
always-compiled-in PHP extension, so ext-pcre was misreported as
"missing from your system" instead of "disabled by your platform
config" whenever a platform override disabled it.
Also fix XdebugHandler::getAllIniFiles() always returning `[""]`
(a php-runtime stub): create_extension_hint()'s early-return guard
(`paths[0] empty && len==1`) fired unconditionally, silently dropping
the entire "To enable extensions..." hint from every solver-problem
message that mentions missing extensions. shirabe-external-packages
can't depend on shirabe-php-rpc (shirabe-php-rpc already depends on
shirabe-external-packages), so IniHelper::get_all() queries a new
get_all_ini_files RPC command directly instead of going through the
stub.
This exposed that XdebugHandler is never constructed with a name
because bin/composer's restart-without-Xdebug bootstrap was never
ported to main.rs, making COMPOSER_ORIGINAL_INIS-driven behavior
unreachable; documented with a TODO(phase-c) and updated
ini_helper_test.rs's ignore reasons (and ignored test_with_no_ini,
which only passed before by coincidence with the old stub's constant
output) to match.

shirabe_php_shim::chr() returned a Rust String, which lossily
re-encodes bytes >= 0x80 as UTF-8 replacement characters. ip_get_mask,
ip_get_network, and ip_map_to_6 relied on chr() to build raw in_addr
and netmask byte arrays, corrupting IPv4-in-IPv6 mappings and CIDR
netmasks. Build the Vec<u8> byte arrays directly instead of
round-tripping through String, and un-ignore test_ip_address and
test_ip_range now that the underlying bug is fixed.
chr()'s only other caller (http_downloader.rs, an ASCII ESC byte in a
regex pattern) didn't need the indirection either, so remove the shim
function entirely.

The ignored tests raced on the process-wide HTTP_PROXY/etc env vars
and the ProxyManager::INSTANCE mutex, causing spurious PoisonError
panics when run in parallel. Adding #[serial_test::serial], the same
annotation test_instantiation already used, fixes the race with no
other changes needed.

74 tests carried a bare #[ignore] with no explanation. Re-ran each:
25 now pass and had the attribute removed; the remaining 49 got a
concise reason (todo!() stubs, regex-crate PCRE gaps, PhpMixed type
mismatches, config bool-coercion bugs, missing skipped_load wiring
in PoolBuilder, etc.) so future work can find and fix them by grep.
No production code or test logic/assertions were changed.

Replaces Job/Request/JobHandle/id_gen/running_jobs/max_jobs with a
tokio::sync::Semaphore permit held for the duration of each request.
get/add/copy/add_copy are now &self (add/add_copy are also genuinely
async); a shared execute()/dispatch() core replaces
add_job/run_rfs_job/start_job/settle_job, returning the Response
directly instead of deferring to wait()/count_active_jobs()/
get_response() (all removed — confirmed zero callers, same for the
now-unused STATUS_* constants).
get()/copy() stay synchronous rather than becoming async wrappers
around add()/add_copy(), bridging via the existing sync_executor
instead of the curl_runtime() introduced for CurlDownloader: their
callers (~35 files reaching HttpDownloader) are mostly plain sync fns
with no async boundary anywhere in the call chain, and forcing that
propagation now would pull forward the dedicated async-propagation
task. curl-eligible requests still route through curl_runtime()
inside dispatch(), same as before — nesting sync_executor::block_on
(no real reactor) around curl_runtime().block_on() (a real, separate
Runtime) is safe; it's only nesting curl_runtime() inside itself that
would panic.
CurlDownloader no longer needs Rc<RefCell<>> wrapping despite the
original design sketch: since item 2 made all of its methods &self,
a plain Option<CurlDownloader> field works fine under HttpDownloader's
own &self methods.
get/add/copy/add_copy becoming &self (rather than &mut self) requires
no changes at any of their ~35 calling files: RefMut/Ref both deref to
a type that can call &self methods just fine.
Verified manually against real network I/O (sandbox disabled): `shirabe
show -a` (get()'s sync_executor-bridged path) and `shirabe
create-project` (add_copy()'s genuinely async path via file_downloader.rs)
both complete correctly with no hang.
|
|
Wrap RemoteFilesystem in Rc<RefCell<>> inside HttpDownloader, in prep
for the upcoming &self conversion of add()/get(). copy()/get_contents()
now bundle the response headers into their return value instead of
requiring a follow-up get_last_headers() call, since two separate calls
through a shared RefCell could otherwise race: nothing would guarantee
the reader observes the headers from its own request rather than one
clobbered by a concurrently borrowed call. get_last_headers() itself is
left in place, mirroring RemoteFilesystem::getLastHeaders() in PHP.
|
|
reset() eagerly rebuilt the ProxyManager singleton immediately,
capturing env vars before a caller could set them for the next
request. PHP's reset() just nulls the static instance; getInstance()
lazily constructs on next use. Match that so proxy env vars set after
reset() are observed.
get_instance() also ensured the singleton was constructed under its
own lock, dropped that lock, and returned the bare Mutex; every caller
then took a second, independent lock. A reset() landing in that gap
would leave the caller observing None and panicking on
.as_ref().unwrap(), a state the old eager-reconstructing reset() could
not produce. Return the already-locked MutexGuard from get_instance()
instead, so construction and use happen under one lock, and update all
call sites accordingly.
Holding that guard across a loop body then deadlocked in
diagnose_command, since check_http_proxy transitively re-enters
get_instance() via HttpDownloader -> CurlDownloader, and
std::sync::Mutex is not reentrant. Re-acquire the lock fresh each
iteration with a short-lived guard instead.
Finally, Mutex::new is a const fn, so the OnceLock wrapper around it
was unnecessary indirection; a bare static Mutex<Option<ProxyManager>>
initializes to the same state without the get_or_init/get dance.

Implement previously-todo!() tests in auth_helper_test.rs,
process_executor_test.rs, remote_filesystem_test.rs, and
stream_context_factory_test.rs by porting the corresponding PHPUnit
test methods. Extend IOStub with writeRaw/setAuthentication call
tracking and askAndValidate/getAuthentication overrides to model the
PHPUnit mocks these tests rely on, deduping the resulting
call-recording fields into a small generic CallRecorder<T> helper
instead of repeating the same RefCell<Vec<T>> push/borrow().clone()
boilerplate five times.
testStoreAuthWithPromptInvalidAnswer and
testPromptAuthIfNeededMultipleBitbucketDownloads had initially lost
the ported PHPUnit mock's argument/call-count assertions
(askAndValidate's exact prompt string, and
hasAuthentication/getAuthentication's exactly(2) call counts),
silently narrowing what the tests verify; IOStub now records these
calls and the tests assert on them, matching upstream.
Tests left unportable (PHP set_error_handler machinery, closures in
data providers, network/subclass-mock dependencies, etc.) keep
#[ignore] with a single // TODO(phase-d) reason recorded in the
function body.

get_remote_contents was a full stub always returning None, so any
file:// download raised a TransportException. Read local files
directly for the file scheme, mirroring PHP's file_get_contents
transparently handling the file:// stream wrapper. Also fixes
file_get_contents5 to strip the file:// prefix like the 0-arg
variant already did.
|
|
These three tests exercise getContents/copy against a file:// URL (and a
real network download for BitBucket). They remain #[ignore] because
get_remote_contents has no stream/file layer yet (TODO(phase-c)) and
returns None, so the calls raise a TransportException. The ignore
reasons are updated to reflect the actual failure point.

Replace hand-written mock/stub structs that re-implemented PHPUnit
mock-builder behavior (record-and-verify, manual call counters,
unreachable!() guards) with mockall::mock! locals across:
- package/loader: MockLoader, VersionGuesserMock
- command: ArchiveManager/RepositoryManager/EventDispatcher mocks
- util: ConfigSource/AuthJson mocks (auth_helper, bitbucket, github,
forgejo, gitlab)
- repository/vcs: github_driver NullConfigSource
- installer: CountingInstaller, RecordingBinaryInstaller, and the
DownloadManager mock (formerly common/downloader_stub.rs, now deleted)
- downloader: download_manager create_downloader_mock
Verification (counts/args) now lives in mockall expectations checked on
drop. installation_manager BinaryInstaller is left hand-written because
its as_binary_presence_interface seam returns Some(&mut self), which
mockall cannot express; io_stub and io_mock are left as-is.

Port 11 categories of previously-ignored Composer tests now reachable with
the mockall crate: DownloadManager, VCS/Perforce/File downloaders,
VersionSelector, PlatformRepository, Auditor, installer/FilesystemRepository,
RootPackageLoader, util auth/http, commands, and Cache.
Extract test seams additively on concrete structs as *Interface traits
(Runtime, HhvmDetector, VersionGuesser, RepositorySet, Perforce,
BinaryInstaller) plus mock-field seams (Cache, Filesystem); consumers take
trait objects. Mocks are defined locally in the test crates via
mockall::mock!, since automock-generated mocks are cfg(test)-gated and
invisible across the integration-test boundary.
dataProviders are ported in full; tests blocked by unported shims stay
#[ignore] with documented reasons rather than reduced or weakened.
Fix product bugs surfaced by the ports:
- util/github: use the exception code, not the HTTP status, for 401/403
- advisory: serialize empty audit maps as [] to match PHP json_encode
- repository/filesystem and downloader/file: fix RefCell double-borrow panics

Replace the libcurl-shim CurlDownloader with a reqwest+tokio implementation per
the .ken sketch, resolving the construction panic that blocked command tests
(mock path via __new_mock is untouched). Port remote_filesystem (7), hg/svn
driver (4), zip_archiver/git_exclude_filter (4) tests. Fix hg/svn/git_exclude
regex-delimiter and svn result-propagation porting bugs.

Port autoload_generator (24), bitbucket (14), suggested_packages (11),
git_driver (6), archive_manager (3), and a bump command test. Fix the
ApplicationTester output-capture root cause (php://memory streams must be
readable regardless of fopen mode). Implement posix_getuid/geteuid, the PCRE
'A' anchored modifier, php_strip_whitespace, stream_get_wrappers, is_callable
scalars; fix preg_quote angle-bracket escaping and class-map parser regexes.

Port auth_helper (14), library_installer (8), console_io (7), zip_downloader (3),
git_bitbucket_driver (3) tests. Implement date_create/strtotime for the ISO8601/
RFC3339/relative formats Composer uses (unknown input -> None, no silent guess).
Fix production bugs: Question::is_assoc list-vs-assoc, auth_helper gitlab-domains
list handling, LibraryInstaller RefCell double-borrow, ZipArchive::extract_to
ErrorException propagation.
